BATON ROUGE - A 19-year-old was beaten and shot to death Thursday night after an argument broke out inside a gas station.

The Baton Rouge Police Department said the shooting happened around 7 p.m. at the Circle K on S. Sherwood Forest Boulevard near N. Harrells Ferry Road.

Darlin Joel Torrez-Velasquez, 19, was attacked and shot multiple times, eventually dying at the scene, according to officials.

Arrest records said a two brothers, 19-year-old Christopher Vigil and 18-year-old Josue Vigil, and their 16-year-old cousin were arrested for the murder and are facing multiple charges.

The three teenagers were at the station buying gas Thursday evening, according to police. The 16-year-old entered the building to pay when he saw Torrez-Velasquez inside.

Police said surveillance video showed the juvenile returning to their vehicle and speaking to the two brothers. Christopher Vigil reportedly grabbed a gun, stashed it in his hoodie, and rushed toward the gas station door followed by his two relatives.

Torrez-Velasquez pulled a pistol when he noticed the three suspects hurrying toward the building. Arrest documents said Christopher Vigil fired his gun until it was empty before taking the victim's gun, threatening the store clerk, and beating the wounded victim with the help of his brother.

After their arrests, records said all three suspects admitted to police that Christopher Vigil and Torrez-Velasquez had a history of fighting and disagreement.

The murder follows an alleged "bad fight" between the two over a year ago, according to police.
