HAMMOND -  The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's department said they've named a suspect in the Mary Alvarez murder.

Deputies said they believe Eric Selders is responsible for murdering Mary Alvarez , 63, back in November 2012. Mary Alvarez was murdered while working at her nursery, which was owned by her and her husband Vic Alvarez.

Investigators arrested Selder back in November 2013 after receiving a tip from an informant that Eric Selders was the person who murdered Mary Alvarez. However, Selders was arrested but charged with distributing narcotics and possessing a firearm. According to investigators, they've discussed this case with the District Attorney Office and shared the evidence, and believe they have sufficient evidence to obtain an arrest warrant on Eric Selders.

Although Selders is in jail serving a long sentence, investigators said they're working to try and build a strong case against Selders before an arrest is made.

Currently, Selder is serving a 15 year sentence on federal charges, and is also facing additional drug distribution charges in federal court in Baton Rouge.  Deputies said any additional sentence he receives in Baton Rouge will be added to his current 15 year sentence he is now serving.

Investigators said Vic Alvarez was the one who discovered his wife shot, called 911 and attempted to help to her until the ambulance arrived.  Investigators said he was fully cooperative with the investigation the entire time. However, Mr. Alvarez went through many rounds of questioning and investigators said he never stopped being cooperative and assisting investigators.
