UPDATE: The mayor's office has confirmed that Mayor Broome has seen body camera footage from Monday night's deadly shooting.

The mayor says she feels that the footage was consistent with the recent report from LSP.

BATON ROUGE- Mayor Sharon Weston Broome sat down with WBRZ Tuesday morning to discuss the officer-involved shooting that took place Monday night. 

The shooting that left one man dead occurred at 6:30 p.m. on McClelland Drive at the Palms Apartments.

State Police have taken over the investigation. Troopers said a case worker with the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services asked for a police escort while conducting an investigation at the apartment complex.

At some point, a man was shot and killed after a struggle broke out with an unidentified Baton Rouge Police officer, according to officials.

As of Tuesday morning Broome said she had not seen the body camera footage.

"It's very important that transparency and truth remain the ultimate goal in this investigation," Broome said. "Whenever we have an officer involved shooting we are very conscientious about the trust of the community."

 Broome was at the scene Monday night. 

"The protocol is to have the State Police do the investigation," Broome said. "I certainly believe that they will do a very thorough investigation. What's so vitally important is that we keep the lines of communication open with the community."

After the incident Broome said there was wrong information posted online. The mayor said she encourages people to wait for the truth.

The shooting has come right in the middle of Broome's selection of a new police chief.

"What took place last night will not change the process of what we are looking for in a new police chief," Broome said. "My ultimate goal is that law enforcement and our community will work together. By the end of the year, I believe that we will have a new police chief."
