NAPOLEONVILLE - A man accused of leading law enforcement on a high speed chase in Assumption Parish before crashing into Bayou Lafourche in Labadieville now faces new charges after deputies say he attempted to escape from jail..

Deputies say Drake Domangue scaled the jail yard fence last Thursday and escaped into a canefield. His taste of freedom was brief: the Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office says they caught him within 5 minutes.

3 days earlier, Domangue was arrested on a littany of charges after deputies say he refused to stop for deputies, crashed his car into the bayou and attempted to evade capture by swimming away.

Following Domangue's arrest, deputies also realized he had outstanding charges in St. Charles, South Lafourche and Terrebonne Parishes. His bond has been set at more than $222,000, and he could face additional charges.
