LABADIEVILLE - The Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office arrested a man after they say he led officers on a high-speed chase in a stolen car before crashing into Bayou Lafourche in Labadieville.

According to deputies, the chase began when they saw a car speeding on LA-1 late Monday night. Two deputies turned on their lights and sirens and gave chase but say the car did not stop while traveling at a high-rate of speed.

The pursuit seemed to have ended when the driver, identified as Drake Domangue of Houma, crashed into the bayou, but deputies say he then attempted to swim away to "evade capture". His attempt was unsuccessful, and he was arrested.

The list of charges: Flight from an Officer, Inspection sticker, Headlamps required, Tail Lamps required, Reckless Operation of a vehicle, resisting an offier with force of violence, operating a vehicle while Intoxicated, Operating a vehicle while under suspension, Vehicle Entering Highway from a Private Road, illegal possession of stolen thingsm Violations of Registration Provisions, Possession of Drug Paraphanelia, Possession of Schedule II.

Investigators say the drug charges are because Domangue was carrying crystal methamphetamine and because they found syringes in the car. Deputies also say Domangue initially gave them a fake name. They believe he has warrants out in other jurisdictions and expect to question him again to learn new information.
