Bystanders apprehend suspected car thief after hit-and-run on Airline Highway
BATON ROUGE - Police say a suspected car thief was apprehended by bystanders after a hit-and-run crash on Airline Highway Tuesday morning.
According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, 47-year-old Jimmie Dunigan was traveling northbound in the 10000 block of Airline Highway around 10:15 a.m. Tuesday.
Police say Dunigan ran a red light and struck another vehicle. He then allegedly veered away from the wreck and struck a second, parked vehicle at a car dealership. After the second crash, Dunigan fled on foot.
Bystanders chased after Dunigan and apprehended him at the I-12 on ramp. Police arrived on the scene shortly afterward and arrested him.
Police ran a search on the vehicle driven by Dunigan and discovered that it was reported stolen in St. Tammany Parish.
