Victim identified in fatal accidental shooting, suspect charges upgraded
UPDATE 9-5-17: Investigators with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office have identified the victim from Saturday evening’s shooting as Jevon Sonnier, 16, of Parks.
UPDATE 9-4-17: The St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office says the 16-year-old shot Saturday night has died.
17-year-old Ryan Jeffery's charges have been upgraded to one count of negligent homicide.

ST. MARTINVILLE - A 17-year-old was arrested after he allegedly accidentally shot a 16-year-old in the neck Saturday night.
According to the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office, officers with the Parks Police Department, along with Sheriff's deputies, responded to a possible shooting in the 5300 block of Bridge Street Highway in Parks, La.
Upon arrival, deputies learned a 16-year-old male juvenile had sustained a single gunshot wound to the neck, according to the Sheriff's Office.

He was subsequently airlifted to a nearby hospital where he remains in serious condition, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Through the investigation, the Sheriff's Office determined the shooting was accidental. As a result, Ryan Jeffery, 17, of Parks was arrested on one count of negligent injury.
Jeffery was booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center on the aforementioned charge. No bond has been set.
