BATON ROUGE - The state and the Capital Region Planning Commission propose adding another road to a heavily congested part of Baton Rouge.

The project calls for an extension of Dijon Drive off Essen, to connect to a future children's hospital expected to break ground a few months.  The two-part project would also connect to Bluebonnet and is expected to be complete in 2019.

DOTD said Thursday there are a few proposals to be present to the public along with a traffic study.

But, drivers are worried about on-going construction on Essen and how an additional project might complicate the situation.  Drivers said they do not want their drivers to get longer.

"It can be pretty difficult to deal with," said Gerald Collins.

The proposal is in the design phase.  Engineers anticipate the road running between Ward Creek and Margaret Ann Street.

There is a public meeting to talk about the project Wednesday, Dec. 16 from 5-7 p.m. at the Renaissance in Baton Rouge.
