BATON ROUGE - A 19-year-old faces felony rape charges following an April 2016 incident at LSU.

Eseoghene Ovuede was booked into jail this week after a lengthy investigation. Ovuede is accused of following a female LSU student to her East Campus Apartment; an LSU student housing complex on the eastern side of campus along Corporation Canal near the rec center. The victim told police Ovuede followed her into the unit once she unlocked the door and into her room where she was attacked. Police wrote in arrest documents obtained by WBRZ Tuesday, the victim did not know the attacker's name at first and their first and only encounter before the attack was seeing each other in the apartment complex area before he followed her.

Police had to close the case after the initial report in April because the victim became too distraught to provide additional information and she eventually stopped talking to detectives altogether.

Months later, though, the victim contacted authorities again to report having encountered her attacker while walking back to her apartment complex when campus was bustling with people on the day Ole Miss played LSU in October. The woman contacted the detective who investigated the initial complaint, and said the man who attacked her in April saw her walking as he drove by, stopped and offered her a ride. She accepted, hoping to get his name and contact information. She provided LSU Police with a picture of the license plate attached to the vehicle she rode in. She also gave police a phone number she was given and said the man identified himself as "Monday" Ovuede.

When police searched the license plate and phone number, two names were returned: a name similar to "Monday" Ovuede and Eseoghene Ovuede. Police presumed the latter was a female, so detectives asked the victim to identify the person with the actual name akin to Monday as her attacker but she couldn't. Eventually, police said, they realized Eseoghene Ovuede was a man and the case started to come together. Though, when questioned Eseoghene Ovuede at first said he did not know the victim other than giving her a ride in October but later said the victim asked him for drugs in April, invited him to her apartment and tried to have sex with him. Ovuede said he refused to have sex with the victim because he has never had sex and was nervous. He told police he did not assault the woman.

The woman was not identified, which is standard procedure.

Police said DNA was collected from the apartment complex in April but did not report its findings in the police report. Matching DNA can be a lengthy process.

Eseoghene Ovuede was booked into jail Monday and bonded out Tuesday, posting the $25,000 bond.
