State Police seize over $1 million in drugs after 2 overnight traffic stops in St. Tammany

ST. TAMMANY- Louisiana State Police seized over $1 million in narcotics after two traffic stops in St. Tammany Parish.
The first stop occurred when State Troopers from Troop L stopped a Mercedes Benz on I-12 around 10 p.m. Monday night.
The car was stopped going eastbound west of the Madisonville exit. During the stop, troopers were suspicious of criminal activity and asked to search the car.
25-year-old Stephany Vergara was driving and refused to consent to the search.
A Trooper K-9 was used and found 3.8 lbs of cocaine in the trunk of the car. Vergara was arrested for possession of a schedule II narcotic and booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail.
The second stop occurred around 2:20 a.m. Tuesday morning when Troopers stopped a Toyota Camry on I-12 that 41-year-old Salas Veda was driving. 39-year-old Ever Estuardo Chimo was in the front passenger seat.
After Veda consented to a search of the car, Troopers found 90 lbs. of liquid meth in plastic soda bottles.
Both were arrested for possession of a schedule II narcotic and were booked into St. Tammany Parish Jail.
