School gives update after football player airlifted from Southern Lab game Thursday night
BATON ROUGE - A high school football player was injured late Thursday night during the Southern Lab vs. Riverside Academy game at Mumford Stadium.
School officials have confirmed that Riverside Academy student, Kayon Brumfield was injured during the game and airlifted from the scene.
Players, coaches, and cheerleaders from both teams were seen kneeling in the middle of the field with their heads bowed while AirMed responded.
Brumfield's coach says the teen suffered a 'concussion-like' head injury, but he is expected to be OK.
Riverside Principal Mike Coburn said Friday that Kayon did suffer a concussion and he has more tests to undergo, including an MRI. He does have feeling in his limbs.
Coburn says Kayon is now stable and awake, and he is expected to be OK.
