BATON ROUGE - Hundreds gathered in the street in front of Baton Rouge City Hall, all chanting for justice for Alton Sterling.

With megaphones and posters in hand, the people began their one-and-a-half mile march to the State Capitol.

The march was organized by city leaders calling for unity.

"So many people are hurting, frustrated and angry," Metro City Councilman LaMont Cole said. "They want to do something to show their support for the Sterling family."

Once the marchers reached the state house, organizers say the crowd had released close to a thousand black and white balloons, all with one common theme.

"And unifying around that one theme is the desire for justice to prevail in the situation," Sharon Weston Broome said.

This protest was based on peace, but still a protest with a serious purpose.

"We are so excited about this opportunity that we have to put pressure not only on our state and our city, but the entire world to get this right," Cole said.
