BATON ROUGE - A man was booked into jail early Christmas morning after a bizarre situation involving reports of gunfire and what appeared to be homemade explosives.

Joseph Paul Mobley, 22, was booked into jail for possession and manufacturing of a bomb.

Mobley was arrested after being treated for injuries at a hospital.  Originally, police thought Mobley had shot himself but later determined his injuries were from a device exploding at a group home on Plank Road.

Hours before he was arrested, police responded to reports that he had shot himself at a group home facility in the 2000 block of Plank Road.  As they dealt with the initial incident, police realized there were suspicious devices nearby.  As a precaution in chaotic situations involving threats or suspicious packages, police routinely treat incidents as if damaging explosives are involved.

Plank Road was closed for hours Thursday as authorities dealt with the devices.
