73-year-old man in wheelchair struck, killed on Airline Hwy. Friday night
BATON ROUGE - Officials say a 73-year-old man is dead following a crash on Airline Highway Friday night.
The incident occurred around 8:15 p.m. in the 5900 block of Airline Highway, according to a Baton Rouge Police Department spokesperson.
Through the initial investigation, BRPD discovered that a 2015 Honda Fit was traveling southbound on Airline Hwy. in the outside travel lane. Investigators believe that a pedestrian, identified as a 73-year-old man in a wheelchair, was proceeding west while attempting to cross the southbound travel lanes when he was struck by the vehicle.
The man died on scene, according to BRPD. The driver of the Honda was not injured.
The investigation remains ongoing, but charges are not anticipated against the driver, BRPD said.
