PLAQUEMINE - A former teacher at an Iberville Parish school was sentenced on Wednesday to two years behind bars and another five years of supervised probation after he was found guilty of having sexual relations with three female students.
Keavin Keith, an ex-teacher at the Iberville Math, Science and Arts Academy-West, was arrested after a student reported to law enforcement that the then 30-year-old Keith had conceived a child when she was 15.
Keith was criticized by the sentencing judge for comments he made about the victims in pre-sentencing in which he accused the students of being the aggressors in leveling the accusations.
Keith pleaded no contest in February to the five counts of carnal knowledge of a juvenile and 30 counts of prohibited sexual conduct between an educator and a student brought against him.
The sentence Keith received was significantly less than the possible maximum of 50 years in prison he could have faced.
While investigating the pregnant student's claims, it was found by investigators that Keith had engaged in sex with two other students.
Keith would eventually admit to sheriff’s deputies that he had sexual relationships with three students, while DNA paternity tests confirmed he had fathered a child by the initial student accuser.
