Earl Phelps joined WBRZ in March 2016 as a multimedia journalist, bringing years of experience to the News 2 team. He comes to us from WXVT-TV in Greenville, MS where he served as their News Director and Anchor.
Phelps started his career as a part time studio camera operator and weather person for KIEM-TV in Eureka, CA, while simultaneously earning his bachelor’s degree from Humboldt State University. He believes that, “Television news was a natural progression for me. It poses different challenges on a daily basis and satisfies my thirst for learning.”
Over his career Earl has led two different news departments to a total of 3 Associated Press “Newscasts of the Year” awards. Outside of broadcast journalism Earl is a big fan of live music, especially Blues, Soul, and Zydeco. So he is right at home here in the capital city.
Fun fact: Earl is known to “cut a rug”, so you just might see his moves around town.
