Sheriff: Missing woman found dead in sugar cane field
THIBODAUX, La. (AP) - A Louisiana sheriff's office says a missing Larose woman has been found dead in a sugar cane field.
Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre says 44-year-old Rani Pinel was found dead Saturday inside of her father's truck in a field in Thibodaux. The sheriff's office says foul play is suspected in her death, and Lt. Brennan Matherne says an autopsy is set for Monday.
Pinel was last seen Dec. 17 and was reported missing early Saturday. Pinel's father told investigators that his daughter called him last week to say she was in Texas for a funeral. An investigation is ongoing.
