NEW ORLEANS - Hundreds of people from across the globe are traveling to Louisiana with hopes that a doctor's treatment will help heal brain damage in their children.

Baton Rouge native Kelsie LeBlanc says her son, Kohen Blades, contracted bacterial meningitis and viral encephalitis after walking in waist-deep water during the August flood.

"I remember thinking to myself, 'God please let my baby be okay,'" LeBlanc said. "I told myself 'If I have to ask God to let my baby be okay, then something's wrong."

LeBlanc and Kohen visited Dr. Paul Harch's clinic in Marrero. Dr. Harch claims specifically dosing oxygen to certain areas of the brain can help promote growth in tissue.

"Centuries or more, we have felt the dictum has been that there's nothing you can do for a brain injury, and it's clearly wrong," Dr. Harch said.

Now, hundreds of patients visit his clinic for the treatment. However, Dr. Harch said the demand is so great, many families are often left struggling to find a place to stay when they visit, since the Ronald McDonald House is full. As reported by WWL, Dr. Harch is hoping people will offer the families a place to stay, transportation, and donations for treatment insurance still won't pay for.
