Fiery, early morning crash kills driver in EBR
BATON ROUGE - A 33-year-old man died in a fiery crash on La. 30 just outside city limits before sunrise Thursday.
State Police said David Breland III, 33, was killed in the crash. State Police said Breland, of Baton Rouge, was northbound on La. 30 when he crossed into the southbound lane, ran off the highway and flipped after hitting a culvert. The small sedan burst into flames as it crashed, police said. Breland was trapped inside.
The fire caused so much damage to the vehicle, investigators were not able to determine if Breland was wearing a seatbelt or if alcohol use played a role in the crash. Though, investigators said they took a toxicology sample from Breland's remains.
The wreck happened south of Ben Hur Rd. around 5 a.m.
