BATON ROUGE - A man accused of brazen home burglaries has been arrested after a story on WBRZ TV.

Bryan Buckles is facing several charges including attempted simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling, simple trespassing, and theft of a firearm. He is connected to four confirmed home burglaries in the parish in the last two months.

The most bizarre was on May 10 when authorities said Buckles and another suspect were caught by a homeowner who chased them through the Southdowns neighborhood. In arrest documents and a television interview, the homeowner said he had just returned home from running errands when he found the suspects in his driveway.

When questioned, the pair claimed to be at the wrong house – using an excuse they were supposed to be cleaning a house and got confused. One of the suspects snuck out of the homeowner's house while the homeowner and the other suspect were talking.

"That's when he startled me," Barrett Nobile said in a previous interview with WBRZ. "He goes, 'hun, I told you I'm working at the house around the corner,' which is weird because she was waiting on him at my house."

Nobile said he gave them the benefit of the doubt but decided he would follow them as they left his home.

"As soon as I turned onto Glasgow to follow them off of Hyacinth, they just took off. They just floored it."

He eventually gave up his pursuit and returned home where he discovered his back door was open and several items were missing. Nobile said the thieves made off with several hundred dollars in cash, a MacBook laptop, iPad, and a couple of watches. Buckles was also involved in thefts on April 16, May 8, and May 11.

According to arrest reports, DNA from a cigarette left in a homeowner's closet linked Buckles to one of the crimes. Buckles was booked into jail overnight. He is facing four counts of simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling, three counts of criminal trespassing, two counts of theft, and one count of theft of a firearm.
