20-year-old woman struck, killed by vehicle on I-10
BATON ROUGE - A 20-year-old Baton Rouge woman was struck and killed by a vehicle early Sunday morning on Interstate 10.
According to State Police, the crash took place around 3:00 a.m. Sunday morning on I-10 east of Highland Rd.
The crash claimed the life of 20-year-old Brittany Morgan, State Police said.
An initial investigation of the crash revealed that Morgan was traveling eastbound on I-10 when she began experiencing mechanical issues, State Police said. Morgan then pulled her vehicle into the median, according to State Police.
At the same time, 23-year-old Jarvea Baptiste was traveling eastbound on I-10 in a 2010 Toyota Camry.
Then, for unknown reasons, Morgan walked into the roadway and was struck by Baptiste's vehicle, according to State Police.
Morgan sustained fatal inquires from the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner's Office.

Baptiste was properly restrained and was not injured, State Police said.
It is unknown if impairment was a factor in the crash, according to State Police. Toxicology samples will be taken from both Morgan and Baptiste.
