Tax bill assessments delayed until February due to flood

BATON ROUGE – The East Baton Rouge Tax Assessor has announced that due to the August flood some tax assessments are null and void and will require reassessment, delaying when residents will receive them. 

At this time, the tax assessor anticipates that reassessments will be completed by the first part of February 2017. The Tax Assessor has up to an additional 6 months to complete the property reassessments following the flooding.

Upon completion, the tax assessor will deliver the final 2016 tax roll to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff.

The Sheriff, as the ex-officio tax collector, cannot mail the tax bills until after the final tax roll is received from the Tax Assessor. After receiving the tax roll, it will take the Sheriff's three months to mail the 200,000 tax notices.

Due to the reassessments, residents will not receive their tax bills until February 2017 and  their 2016 tax disbursements until the 10th business day of the month following the mailing of tax notices. According to the Tax Assessor, that is expected to be in March 2017.
