INVESTIGATIVE UNIT: High-ranking police officers on leave amid \'possible policy violations\' probe

BATON ROUGE- Nine Baton Rouge Police officers are on administrative leave for "various reasons" the department revealed to the WBRZ Investigative Unit Friday  morning.

Earlier, WBRZ was first to report at least four were high-ranking lieutenants and sergeants.

Some of the initial group were for possible violations on their time sheets. An investigation is currently underway into whether or not the officers possibly lied about where they were.

Baton Rouge Police Spokesman L'Jean McKneely issued the following statement:

"We do have four supervisors who are on paid administrative leave for possible policy violations. We are not at liberty to discuss what the possible violations are at this time because they're still under investigation and we aren't sure of anything until it has been concluded."

The WBRZ Investigative Unit has made an editorial decision not to publish the names of the officers involved until the investigation is complete.

Though, McKneely later said five others are on leave for "various reason" but did not provide specifics.  It is unclear if the additional officers are tied to the four.

According to the City's 2016 operating budget, there are 116 sergeants and 55 lieutenants in the Baton Rouge Police Department. In 2016, the city budgeted for 886 employees.
