Day care loses license after arrest
BATON ROUGE - State education officials said a Baker day care lost their license after Louisiana State Police arrested the director's daughter for claiming to be the person in charge and forging an ID in the process.
On Friday the DOE formally revoked the license for Mini Miracles Child Care and Learning Center on Groom Road and put a notice on the day care's property.
On Aug. 12 State Police accused 39-year-old Alica Robinson of identity theft and forgery after they said she created a fake driver's license in order to claim to inspectors she was her mother, Bertha Morgan, the official director of the daycare.
The Department of Education said Robinson claimed to be the center's director during a July 7 inspection of the Mini Miracles Child Care and Learning Center, and did so again during another inspection a week later. The inspector asked for ID, but said Robinson told them she lost her driver's license and showed them a photocopy of Morgan's license and Social Security card.
The inspector said later that day Robinson produced an actual driver's license for Bertha Morgan, but the picture on the driver's license didn't match the picture of Morgan which was on the facility's initial application for a child care license.
The DOE contacted State Police, who confirmed Robinson's license was a fake. Troopers went back out to the daycare on Aug. 12 and said Robinson again claimed to be Morgan and showed them the fake license, which is when she was arrested.
Education officials said inspectors also found 18 violations of state child care regulations at Mini Miracles. The center was cited for not having current State Central Registry documents for all employees, criminal background checks for all workers, and not meeting the state's child-to-staff ratio at all times. The state also said there were no records of any kind on the site showing Robinson was employed at the center.
