Crash victim's daughter believes obstruction caused wreck
BATON ROUGE - The daughter of a man killed in a vehicle crash Friday wants the city to clear what she believes are obstructions blocking drivers' views of traffic.
"You cannot see that the traffic is coming," Gina Ohlendorf said in an interview with WBRZ reporter Brett Buffington Tuesday.
Her father died at the intersection of North Lobdell and Renoir. Police said John Schneller, 77, pulled into traffic as he was trying to turn left from Renoir to North Lobdell. Schneller was hit and killed.
But, Ohlendorf believes Schneller - whom she described as safety conscious - could not see southbound traffic on North Lobdell.
"He would count how long car lengths were between the car in front of him. He had taken defensive driving yearly."
Now, she hopes the crash can force a fix to clear the intersection of things blocking drivers' eyes.
"If my daddy's life can save someone else's life, that's what I want."
