Walker woman killed in crash on LA 449
WALKER - Police say a 67-year-old woman was killed in a Livingston Parish crash Monday afternoon.
According to Louisiana State Police, troopers reported to the crash at the intersection of LA 449 and Varnodo Road in Walker around 2 p.m. Monday.
Police say Deborah Cantrell of Walker was driving westbound on Varnado Road in 2017 Volkswagen Jetta when she failed to yield at a stop sign and drove into the path of a 2014 Hyundai Sonata passing through the intersection. The oncoming vehicle struck the driver's side of Cantrell's vehicle in the intersection.
Cantrell was properly restrained but sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash. She was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Walker where she was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries in the crash.
Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash, but a toxicology sample will be taken from both drivers for analysis.
