CORRECTION -- The Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness said calling FEMA or attempting to pre-register online will not work at this point. FEMA does not get involved until after a federal disaster is declared. No pre-registration can be done before that declaration, according to GOHSEP.

BATON ROUGE -- Louisiana State Treasurer spoke about the flooding disaster in Louisiana in a live phone interview with WBRZ, assuring people that federal assistance will be available.

"Every now and then when we think we're in control," Kennedy acknowledged, "God and nature remind us that we're really not."

Kennedy said he had not actually asked Governor John Bel Edwards whether Edwards has been in touch with federal authorities about a disaster declaration.

Anyone looking to volunteer should call the American Red Cross at 855-489-2528, or following this link.

"I'm sorry to everybody, but we will get through this," Kennedy said.
