Sorrento town employee among 2 dead in Tuesday crash
SORRENTO - A town employee was among two people killed in a morning crash that involved a box truck Tuesday.
Leo Scott, 59, and Jason Hoffmann, 38, died in the crash at the intersection of Hwy. 61 and Hwy. 22 in Sorrento. Hoffmann was from Covington and Scott was a Sorrento employee driving a work truck.
Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office said Scott was hit from behind by Hoffmann, who was driving the box truck. Scott's truck left the roadway and flipped over after it was hit.
Both men died at the scene.
Mayor Mike Lambert said Scott was on a trash pickup detail to prepare for mowing along Highway 61. Lambert said he knew Scott, whom he hired about a year ago after Scott was released from prison.
"I gave him a chance and he didn't disappoint me," Lambert said.
