SHREVEPORT - A Shreveport bookkeeper has been arrested for stealing nearly $168,000 from her long-time employer.

Caddo Parish Sheriff Steve Prator, in a news release Wednesday, said 48-year-old Susan Kennedy Summers was booked Tuesday into the Caddo Correctional Center for felony theft. It was unknown if she's represented by an attorney.

Detective Casey Jones says Summers is accused of stealing money by negotiating fraudulent checks from the victim's personal and business bank accounts. He says Summers juggled funds through several of the victim's accounts, falsified check registers, and duplicated checks, all for personal gain.

Summers worked for the victim for about 13 years and committed the alleged thefts over a period of five years.

The victim notified authorities after discovering a large amount of money missing from a retirement account in November.
