LAKE CHARLES - A week after Harvey began wreaking havoc in Texas and Southwest Louisiana, President Donald Trump landed in Lake Charles Saturday afternoon.

He spent the morning in Houston discussing recovery efforts with congressmen.

After landing in Lake Charles, the President was greeted by Louisiana government officials such as Governor John Bel Edwards, First Lady Donna Edwards and Senators Bill Cassidy and John Kennedy.

He then went to the National Guard armory where he and officials assessed the damage of Harvey to the area.

When he arrived, his motorcade was greeted with waves and cheers.

"For a sitting President to come by our town and take time out of his busy schedule, that's amazing," resident Dion Kingsbury said.

The President also met with members of the National Guard and volunteer groups such as the Cajun Navy

Trump also pledged $1 million of his own money to Harvey relief efforts.
