Police release new details of fatal shooting on 73rd Avenue

BATON ROUGE – Police confirmed that one man is dead after being struck by a car after a shootout in Baton Rouge Thursday afternoon.

According to Baton Rouge Police, the shooting happened around 5 p.m. in the 1800 block of 73rd Avenue. 

A 25-year-old man was leaving his home in a vehicle when 20-year-old Joseph Williams blocked him with another vehicle, according to police. They say Williams left his vehicle and shot at the victim with  a handgun.  The victim then shot back in self defense, ducking down to dodge gunfire.  The victim struck Williams with his car leaving the area.

Williams was transported to a local hospital where he later died.

Police ask anyone with information on the investigation to call the Violent Crimes Unit at 389-4869.
