Police identify woman killed in domestic murder-suicide

BATON ROUGE – Police said a 29-year-old man from St. Francisville shot his girlfriend in the head in an attempt to kill her before shooting and killing himself Tuesday morning.

The shooting happened in the 5400 block of Banyan Trace Drive in Baton Rouge.

The woman initially survived and was rushed to a hospital in critical condition. On Thursday, police confirmed that the woman, now identified as 34-year-old Laquetra Pigeon, died from her injuries.

According to the Department of Corrections, Pigeon worked as a corrections officer at Angola Prison.

The shooter was identified as Daniel Johnson. He died at the scene after shooting himself, police say.

Police said the shooting was the result of domestic violence, and it is now the thirteenth domestic homicide in East Baton Rouge Parish this year.
