HOMER, La. - Authorities have arrested a former inmate in the death of a sheriff's deputy whose body was found earlier this week in a shallow grave near her north Louisiana home.

Louisiana State Police Trooper Matt Harris says 35-year-old Jermaine Johnson was booked with second-degree murder on Tuesday. Bond has been set at $1 million.

Harris says state police found 69-year-old Sulyn Prince's body late Monday, and that evidence found in Prince's house in Homer led to Johnson's arrest.

Johnson's court-appointed attorney did not return phone calls from The Associated Press.
