Deputies: Child died after being hit in driveway Wednesday
BATON ROUGE - A child died after being run over in a driveway Wednesday evening.
Sheriff's deputies said the child was taken to the hospital by family members and pronounced dead from the injuries. The incident is still under investigation, a department spokesperson said in a news release.
"At this time, detectives believe this was a tragic accident," Casey Hicks said in a statement.
East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Deputies clarified in a supplemental news release the child was 18 months old and was hit sometime before 6:00 on Eubanks Road, off Pride-Baywood Road in the northeast corner of East Baton Rouge Parish.
Names of those involved were not released.
The death Wednesday night was the second death of a child in 24 hours. Earlier in the day, a baby died in an unrelated incident where authorities believe the child drowned.
