ST. MARY PARISH- A man was arrested after failing to pull over for a traffic stop and leading deputies on a chase.

Deputies from the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office arrested Franklin Pearce III Monday afternoon.

Narcotics detectives in the Morgan City and Berwick area observed a motorcycle with no side view mirrors or visible license plate. Detectives saw the motorcycle cross the centerline of the roadway on LA Highway 182 and Frontage Road in Berwick.

Authorities tried to initiate a traffic stop, but Pearce refused to pull over. Instead, Pearce accelerated and went back onto LA Highway 182 and then onto US Highway 90.

During the pursuit, the motorcycle was observed nearly colliding with several other vehicles. Authorities were finally able to stop Pearce on US Highway 90 near Cotton Road. At that point, Pearce fled on foot across the lanes of traffic.

K-9 Buddy was deployed and apprehended Pearce who was arrested for several traffic violations.

During their investigation, detectives found Pearce to be in possession of illegal drugs. Detectives found methamphetamine and marijuana. The methamphetamine had an estimated value of $2,800.

Authorities also said that Pearce was in possession of a small amount of cash that is suspected of being gained from the sale of illicit drugs.
