Baton Rouge man accused of murdering ex-girlfriend arrested in Colorado
BATON ROUGE - A man who allegedly killed his ex-girlfriend before going on the run for nearly a month was found more than 1,000 miles outside East Baton Rouge.
The Baton Rouge Police Department announced Tuesday that federal marshals arrested Davyon Bentley, 24, in Denver, Colorado for charges related to the deadly shooting.
The killing happened Sept. 16 on Joyce Drive. Investigators believe Bentley shot Brenda Mullens, 40, after an argument at her home. Mullens died in a hospital soon afterward.
Bentley allegedly fled the scene immediately after the shooting and spent weeks evading police. He was already wanted on charges of home invasion, illegal use of a weapon, felon in possession of a firearm and simple criminal damage to property at the time of the shooting.
Bentley will be extradited to Baton Rouge to face charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon and felon in possession of a firearm.
