Amtrak train crashes into pickup truck in Ponchatoula
TANGIPAHOA PARISH - One person has been taken to the hospital after a train crashed into a truck towing a boat Wednesday.
According to the Ponchatoula Police Department, an Amtrak train ran into a GMC pickup truck around noon on Wednesday.
The truck was traveling westbound on Highway 22 when it became stuck on the tracks under the railroad crossing arms. The Amtrak train, traveling northbound, struck the stopped vehicle on the driver's side.
Police say the driver of the truck was transported with injuries, but the extent of those injuries was not immediately available. No injuries for passengers on the train were reported.
The crash remains under investigation.
