DOTD installs new traffic cameras in BR

BATON ROUGE- DOTD has added ten new cameras to highways in the Baton Rouge area to help drivers plan before they get behind the wheel.

The new cameras were added as a part of a multi-million dollar camera project system that has been implemented for ten years.

The new cameras make it easier for operators to find an accident, according to Stephen Glascock, DOTD IT Director.

“Its through the use of these cameras were able to detect these incidents very quickly, much quicker than what a telephone call would be to the office," Glascock said.

The cameras also help ambulances and police drive to areas in the fastest amount of time.

“Its pretty much the most beneficial as far as locating any type of incidents on the roadway, the more cameras we have the more likely we are to find something before anyone else finds it,” David Peters, DOTD Senior operator said.

The state currently receives $10 million to spend on technology, so the money is invested in computer systems such as the traffic cameras.

The highest priority areas will receive cameras first and they will go live at the end of April.
