BATON ROUGE - A man was arrested Friday for a fatal shooting late last year on Evangeline Street.

The Baton Rouge Police Department arrested Marquette Alexander, 49, for the murder of O.W. Turner, 51, on Dec. 16, 2021.

Alexander was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon.

Police said the shooting happened shortly after 10 a.m. on Evangeline Street near N Foster Drive. Alexander allegedly shot Turner after a verbal argument broke out between them.

Turner was pronounced dead at the scene. Alexander was able to flee before authorities arrived at the scene, police say.
