BATON ROUGE — Southern's chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity has been cleared to resume normal activities after the school temporarily shut it down in response to hazing allegations in October.

Southern said Friday that its investigation found that the Beta Sigma Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha did not violate the university's code of conduct or Greek life protocols.

According to the Board of Regents, the fraternity was accused of making contestants in the Miss Black and Gold Pageant meet off campus without knowledge or prior approval of the chapter advisor while wearing all black clothing before being taken to a location in two cars, where participants were made to perform jumping jacks and other physical exercises.

They Board reported students were also made to recite the poem "Excuses." School officials said that the student judicial process is ongoing and they had no further information.

The school added that its cease and desist order against the Divine Nine fraternity had been lifted as of Wednesday and the frat could resume normal operations.
