Florida man killed in head-on LA 3087 wreck
HOUMA - State Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash on LA 3087 in Lafourche Parish that left one person dead early Tuesday morning.
Troopers say the head-on crash happened just before 5 a.m., leaving a Florida resident dead after he proceeded up the highway in the wrong direction and hit another another vehicle, seriously injuring another driver.
Investigators said a 1995 Dodge Dakota, driven by 72-year-old Ronald Peltier of Fellsmere, Florida, was traveling south in the northbound lanes of LA 3087 in Lafourche Parish. At the same time, a 2003 Honda Pilot, driven by 25-year-old Nam Nguyen of Houma, was traveling north on LA 3087. Nguyen was unable to avoid the crash, and the vehicles collided head-on, according to LSP.
Troopers said Nguyen was taken by helicopter to University Medical Center in New Orleans with serious injuries despite the fact that he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Peltier was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck by the the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Investigators are uncertain if the 72-year-old man was wearing a seat belt when the wreck occurred.
Investigators are not certain if impairment is a factor in the crash at this time, but routine toxicology tests are pending for the deceased driver. The crash remains under investigation.
