Sources told WBRZ Chief Investigator Chris Nakamoto there was a pursuit down LA 1 and at some point, it turned down a residential street, ending at a dead end.  During the chase, the crash occurred.

Police later confirmed that the chase stemmed from a traffic stop. Brusly police say an officer pulled over the driver,  identified as Herman Lovelady, and discovered he had a suspended driver's license, as well as an outstanding warrant out of Alexandria.

Lovelady fled from police and a chase ensued, reaching speeds of up to 100 miles per hour. Eventually, the suspect jumped out of the moving vehicle mid-chase.

According to the sheriff's office, a deputy was unable to stop his vehicle and ran over Lovelady "a little bit".

The West Baton Rouge Coroner was initially called to the scene, however the person was taken to a hospital after authorities realized he was still alive. The person was trapped under the vehicle and was taken to the hospital once it was moved.

Lovelady is being treated for serious injuries, including a few burns and a lacerated spleen.

The scene is on Elizabeth Drive off La. 1 south of Brusly and north of Addis.
