Blue Cross of Louisiana selects new president, CEO
BATON ROUGE - An executive with Independence Blue Cross in Philadelphia has been named as the new president and CEO for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana.
Multiple media outlets reported Friday that Dr. I. Steven Udvarhelyi, who has been with Independence Blue Cross for almost 20 years, will assume his new role with Blue Cross in early 2016.
He will replace current leader Mike Reitz, who publicly announced in February his plans to retire from the health insurer in June 2016. Reitz took over in 2004 when then-CEO Kathryn Sullivan abruptly resigned.
A board-certified internist, Udvarhelyi has almost 25 years of experience in the managed care industry.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana was founded in New Orleans in 1934.
