BATON ROUGE - Local authorities are holding a press conference to release details about an arrests in a murder-for-hire plot.

According to the the West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office, on October 26 an inmate in the WBR jail phoned a man to ask if he would kill two people. The inmate has been identified as Nathaniel Jelks Jr.

Officials say Jelks made a call the "chilling" call to Jeffery Francious this past Friday, in which he arranged the killing of two people. Francious later admitted to investigators that he received the call from Jelks.

The sheriff's office says Jelks was arrested earlier in October after DNA evidence implicated him in the deadly 2001 shooting of a woman, Demitra Augustus, in West Baton Rouge.

Deputies said Jelks and Francious both have extensive criminal histories.

The sheriff's office said the call described the method and mean of the murder. Within two hours of the discovery of the call, the potential targets were called and their families were brought into protective custody.

The men have been charged with solicitation for murder. At this time, no bonds have been set.
