1 dead, another hurt after attack in Ascension Thursday
PRAIRIEVILLE - One person is dead and a second injured after an unknown attack in Ascension Parish Thursday morning.
The attack happened sometime overnight, the sheriff's office said. There was evidence that the two victims may have been bound, deputies said.
Authorities said it appears the attackers were familiar with the home and the people inside and that the attack was not a home invasion and likely was not random. Authorities said they had received complaints about activities at the home and its owner.
The victims were in their 60s and 70s.
Douglas Tillotson, the home owner, is in the hospital. Byron Hayes, a neighbor, was found dead, authorities said.
There is an active search for suspects.
The situation was uncovered on Tillotson Road - near Parker Road and the Hwy. 42/929 intersection - sometime after nine o'clock. It is an area not prone to crime.
