LIVINGSTON - Public schools resume classes Tuesday in Livingston, Tangipahoa and Ascension parishes.

The school district closed schools last Friday and Monday because of severe weather and flooding. High water made it difficult for students, teachers and bus drivers to move around the parish.

District officials said some bus routes will be modified Tuesday and students who can not make it to school will be excused.

Livingston Parish south of Holden and I-12, the community around the lookout tower reported nearly 14-inches of rain. Tributaries along the Tickfaw River quickly overflowed banks. About 13.8 inches of rain were reported along the Amite River near the Livingston-Ascension Parish line.

Tangipahoa and Ascension issued similar statements Monday afternoon, announcing schools there would also be open Tuesday.  Similarly, bus routes may be altered and students who can't get to school will be excused.

Students are to report to class at regular times Tuesday, March 15.
