CLINTON – Authorities are investigating a deadly single car crash that happened on Rist Road in East Feliciana Parish Sunday night.

East Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives say the crash happened just west of La. 961 around 6:43 p.m. Sunday.

Investigators say 30-year-old Jasmine D. Matthews was driving east on Rist Road when he lost control of his vehicle, drove off the road and struck a tree.

Deputies say Matthews was not wearing a seatbelt and lost consciousness due to the impact. His vehicle remained locked and caught fire with him inside.

Emergency crews found the car engulfed in flames. Matthews died at the scene.

Investigators say they do not know at this time whether impairment was a factor. The crash remains under investigation.
