BATON ROUGE- A former employee of the Prosperity House is speaking up after she said her complaints fell on deaf ears when she filed them with the state.

She's the second former employee to tell the WBRZ Investigative Unit they filed complaints with Adult Protective Services. That agency falls under the Louisiana Department of Health. Today, a spokeswoman said it had no records of any complaints.

"I'm clearly speaking up because those people can't speak for themselves," Laurie Hendrix said. "Some may ask why do their families have them there? Seventy percent of them don't have families, so they have to live there or on the streets."

Hendrix isn't alone. Hope Coleman said she also filed complaints after a resident she worked with had a swollen hand.

"I noticed her hand was swollen so I asked her what was wrong with your hand," Coleman recalled. "She said someone from the group home hit her with a spoon. I filed a complaint with Adult Protection Services and followed up with the attorney general's office."

Last week, the WBRZ Investigative Unit obtained disgusting pictures inside the Prosperity House. The pictures showed the following: people sleeping on the floor, junk everywhere, residents eating without utensils, and their needs apparently neglected.

After multiple requests to get the Group Home's Owner, Chantay Davenport dropped off a two-page letter to WBRZ instead. Part of it reads, "...The allegations of neglect, deplorable conditions and mismanagement of funds are a vicious, slanderous attack on Prosperity House and are completely false... Prosperity House has and will always maintain strict adherence to all rules, regulations and guidelines and we always treat our tenants as family."

Last week, State Senator Regina Barrow pledged to make changes.

"For anyone operating a home and not operating it in the proper manner, we are not going to tolerate this," Barrow said. "I'm asking for people to sound the alarm and let us know. We will not tolerate this type of behavior."

Former workers said enough is enough and they believe Davenport needs to be stopped.

"The Prosperity House under those living conditions should be shut down," Hendrix said. "The governor, senators, whoever need to go in there. If they went in there today, they would shut it down today, immediately."

Many of the residents pay to live at the Prosperity House through their social security checks. The WBRZ Investigative Unit reached out to the Social Security Administration, and we received the following response.

"Social Security takes allegations of misuse seriously; however, due to privacy laws, we cannot disclose or comment on any details surrounding Chantay Davenport or the residents involved in this matter."
