65-year-old man dies in crash in St. Helena Parish
ST. HELENA – A 65-year-old Amite man died in crash on LA 43 at the intersection of LA 16 St. Helena Parish on Tuesday morning.
According to Louisiana State Police, the crash took the life of Jesus Luis Munoz.
The crash occurred as Munoz was driving a Ford F-150 northbound on LA 43 around 11:40 a.m. As Munoz approached the intersection of LA 16, he attempted to turn left. According to Louisiana State Police, when Munoz turned, he failed to yield to a Ford F-350 that was traveling eastbound on LA 16.
Louisiana State Police say, the F-350 was driven by 60-year-old Victor D. Pierce and was towing a 20-foot flatbed trailer. The front of the F-350 crashed into the Munoz's front fender and driver's side door. After the collision, the F-350 continued into the parking lot of Miller's Grocery and crashed into two parked vehicles.

Munoz was wearing his seat belt, however he sustained severe injuries in the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Helena Parish Sheriff's Office. Pierce was also wearing a seat belt at the time. He suffered moderate injuries and was transported to North Oaks Health Systems by Acadian Air Med., according to Louisiana State Police.
Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash, State Police say. The crash is still being investigated.
