Two teens dead after car crashed into pond along Perkins Road
PRAIRIEVILLE - Two 16-year-olds died Sunday afternoon when their car crashed and went into a pond near the Ascension and East Baton Rouge parish line.
State Police said Caroline Smith and Chloe Hamilton were inside the car when it went into the water along Perkins Road near Santa Maria Parkway.
Troopers said Smith was driving the vehicle, which went off-road at a curve, hit a tree and then went airborne before landing in the pond.
Initial reports from first responders suggested the teens were taken to a hospital after the wreck. Police later clarified the victims died at the crash scene.
